50 Foyers by 2030
St John’s Youth Services is a member of Foyer Invest – a national partnership between leading youth services, community housing providers and the Foyer Foundation. The partnership’s goal is to expand the number of Foyers across Australia, so more young people can benefit from this life-changing opportunity.
What is a Foyer?
Foyers are accommodation services for young people who face structural and/or personal barriers to housing. Foyers offer one-to-one support, mentoring and access to opportunities that enable young people to develop independent living skills, succeed in education, training and/or employment and positively engage with their local communities. There are currently eleven accredited Foyers across Australia including South Australia’s only Foyer, Foyer Port Adelaide, which has supported more than 250 young people in South Australia.
50 Foyers by 2030
Foyer Invest is advocating for 50 more Foyers by 2050, which would provide the sorts of opportunities offered to young people at Foyer Port Adelaide to thousands of young people across Australia.
“Youth Foyers provide a unique experience for young people. It allowed me to learn how to be an adult. To have a home. To have space that was my own. And I didn’t feel like I had to do it alone.”
- Ash, former Foyer resident and Foyer Youth Ambassador
